As expected, Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo party, and its presidential candidate, Filipe Nyusi, have won comfortable victories in Mozambique’s southern provinces, in last Wednesday’s general elections.
The results in the capitals of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane provinces, respectively Matola, Xai-Xai and Inhambane city, as announced by the City Elections Commissions, were as follows:

Filipe Nyusi (Frelimo) 150,510 (65.76%)
Afonso Dhlakama (Renamo) 52,752 (23.05%)

Frelimo 133,659 (56.93%)
Renamo 50,565 (22.56%)

In the parliamentary elections, the percentages do not add up to 100, because of the handful of votes cast for the couple of dozen minor parties whose names were on the ballot paper, but who do not stand the slightest chance of electing anybody to the new parliament.
